With utmost kindness to beings, the Buddha presented a vast body of Dharma teachings, with the purpose of freeing all beings from suffering and establishing them in genuine happiness. Although immense in extent, the entirety of the Buddha’s teachings, classified as the three pitakas or three baskets, the four classes of tantra, and so forth, may be encapsulated in a single phrase: “Tame the mind.”
In our source text for these teachings, “The Guru’s Instructions in a Single Utterance,” Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thayé provides pithy advice to his monastic disciple, Karma Pende, summarizing the essential points for taming the mind.
DRUPON KHENPO LODRO NAMGYAL
has a combination of immense learning and intensive meditation that is clearly evident in his teachings. His way of making the most complex and subtle Dharma subjects immediately accessible is a constant inspiration to all.
The RIGPE DORJE ON-LINE SERIES is a fulfillment of the enlightened intention of the Kind Lord of Dharma, The Third Jamgön Kongtrül Rinpoché (1954–1992). Your engagement in the study and practice of the Buddhadharma through listening, contemplating, and meditating fulfills Rinpoche’s aspirations.
