Introduction to Tibetan—Level 1
Please register before March 17.

A 12-week course—Tuesdays from March 24 to June 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Miriam Paknys.

Please note that major Rigpe Dorje Centre activities may be scheduled on some Tuesdays. If this is the case, classes will be rescheduled. Please refer to our monthly calendar for updated schedules.

Miriam Paknys has taught beginners’ Tibetan, both in person and online, for the past two years. In that time, she has improved her own conversational Tibetan to an intermediate level. She regularly interprets dharma teachings from English into French.

The Tibetan language can be challenging to learn outside of large Tibetan communities when we have few opportunities for immersion, so Miriam creates an immersion-style environment where learners can communicate in Tibetan right from the beginning while increasing their reading and writing skills.

Miriam teaches in Tibetan, English and French. You will learn useful phrases and short dialogues to use at restaurants, ceremonies and celebrations, while becoming more familiar with the alphabet and spelling of Tibetan.

You will have regular opportunities to practise short dialogues with a classmate and access audio files to improve your pronunciation. This is supported by Miriam’s interpretive guide notes, allowing you to learn how to phrase Tibetan sentences in her unique style, with very accurate meanings. As a result, you will gain the confidence to create and use your own sentences.

Those who have perfect attendance will receive a certificate of completion from the Rigpe Dorje Centre.
