FULFILLING A VISION 

His Eminence the 3rd Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, a senior leader of the Karma Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism, responded to the plight of needy Tibetans in India and Nepal with a vision for social, vocational, educational and medical development. The programs were eventually broadened so that populations of all backgrounds could benefit. In fact, His Eminence’s aim was to provide basic opportunities for personal growth and quality of life for people of all ages. A wide range of projects was initiated to achieve this goal. RDF works with its overseas partners, Paramita Charitable Trust (India) and Ananda Sangh (Nepal), both of which were established by His Eminence to fulfill his vision with projects in India such as The Jamgon Kongtrul 3rd Memorial Home for the destitute elderly and young, The Jamgon Kongtrul 3rd Memorial School and the Jamgon Kongtrul 3rd Memorial Health Care Centre as well as the Sight Restoration Programs in India, Nepal and Tibet. Donations to RDF are tax-deductible and go directly to support the projects.

  • Jamgon Kongtrul 3rd Memorial Home is an Intergenerational Home housing 22 elderly and 55 children who were living in poverty. Your donation will help pay for food, clothing, medical expenses, as well as school fees, uniforms and text books for the children.
  • Jamgon Kongtrul 3rd Memorial School provides an excellent academic education to children from poor families of all castes and creeds in a welcoming, clean and pleasant environment. Your donation will help cover the school’s operating costs, such as teacher salaries, which are essential to maintaining its high quality.
  • Jamgon Kongtrul 3rd Memorial Health Care Centre serves Lava (India) and 32 poor and remote villages in a 25-kilometre radius. The population of this region has now grown to more than 15,000. A token fee is charged for consultations and medications are dispensed at cost. Your donation will help cover the expenses of medicines and medical supplies, the salaries of the on-site nurse, doctor, and pharmacist, as well as the upkeep of the clinic facility.
  • Jamgon Kongtrul Eye Centre (JKEC).  The Eye Centre, a world-class community eye hospital offering high-quality ophthalmic care and treatment, opened in 2005. It serves patients in Kalimpong District, Darjeeling and Sikkim, offering free cataract surgery and lens implants to patients living in poverty, and also provides subsidized treatment to low-income individuals. JKEC is NOW financially sufficient and self-supporting.
  • Remote Outreach Cataract Program was born out of an idea shared by the 3rd Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche and the eminent ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit. The goal was to raise awareness that cataracts are treatable, reach out to people in remote areas where eye care is not available, and offer free treatment to the poor. To date Ananda Sang has conducted 36 cataract programs. 
  • The Traditional Tibetan Medical Centre. On April 7, 1992, as the 3rd Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche was leaving Pullahari for the last time, he walked past a nearby plot of land and said that the Labrang should acquire it, establish a TIBETAN MEDICAL CENTRE, cultivate medicinal herbs and plants, and preserve the medical lineage of Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye.
