The 14th North American Kagyu Monlam, a prayer festival, will be held at Thrangu Monastery Canada in Vancouver, BC, from May 26 to 30, 2026.

The Kagyu Monlam is to spread the seeds of loving kindness and pure motivation, to activate their power and hence bring about genuine peace, love, happiness and well-being in the world.

—17th Gyalwang Karmapa

Offerings for the Kagyu Monlam

If you are unable to attend in person but still wish to participate, please consider contributing to the offerings. This is a meaningful way to practise the first Paramita (generosity). Making offerings to the Three Jewels is one of the most powerful ways to practise generosity. Contributing in this way is another form of participation, and one can receive the same merit as those attending in person.

We warmly invite you to take part in this opportunity.

On behalf of the Rigpe Dorje Centre, Acharya will make offerings for the 14th North American Monlam, as well as individual offerings to the monks, nuns, and lamas who will be leading the chanting.

If you wish to contribute, you may do so via Interac, PayPal, or cheque using the following link: https://rigpedorjemontreal.org/en/dons-activites/

Please indicate that your donation is for the MONLAM. You may also leave a cash donation at the Centre.

The Kagyu Monlam Chenmo traces its origins back to the 15th century, during the time of the 7th Gyalwang Karmapa. At that time, devotees from across Tibet gathered to pray for all beings to be free from suffering and attain happiness. This assembly came to be known as the “Karma Garchen Monlam”—the Great Prayer Gathering of the Karma Kagyu tradition.

In 2004, the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa revitalized and continued this tradition, transforming it into an international prayer gathering. Centred around prayer texts composed by the Karmapa himself, the Monlam now includes supplications to lineage masters from various Tibetan Buddhist traditions, as well as a compilation of daily practice liturgies. Its aim is to dedicate vast aspirations for world peace and the well-being of all sentient beings.
