What is refuge?

By taking Refuge, we commit to opening up our hearts and minds by accepting the Buddha as our teacher, the Dharma as our path and the Sangha as our guides and companions on the path. These are the three Jewels of the Refuge. More than a ritual, Refuge is an encouragement to expand our intention, in formal Practice as well as in daily life to experience our own Buddha nature; and to strengthen loving kindness and compassion for oneself and others. Following in the footsteps of the Buddha, we can ultimately recognize our innate awakened state of mind for the benefit of all beings.
